Signing the Memorandum of Understanding between Marine Emergency Mutual Aid Centre (MEMAC), and the Regional Clean Sea Organization (RECSO)
In the context of enhancing regional cooperation in preserving the safety of the marine environment, a joint regional memorandum of understanding was signed between the Marine Emergency Mutual Aid Centre (MEMAC) and the Regional Clean Sea Organization (RECSO), on Thursday, December 12, 2019, the signing ceremony was hosted in RECSO office Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The memorandum was signed by His Excellency Mr. Abdullah Al Marzouqi (Chairman of the Board of Directors of RECSO) and Captain Dr. Abdul Monem Mohamed Al-Janahi (Director of MEMAC), in the presence of members of the Board of Directors of RECSO.
The memorandum included technical and legal cooperation frameworks between the two organizations regarding the principle of information exchange, pollution control, equipment transportation and training operations.
The Regional Clean Sea Organization is considered one of the oldest and well known organizations globally, as it was founded on July 11, 1972 on a non-profit principle and made up of the largest oil companies operating in the region and with the aim of cooperation among them to combat oil pollution and preserve the marine environment, and since the date of its establishment, the organization started many activities in the field of environmental awareness and continuous office and field training operations over more than four decades, which contributed to enriching the national cadres in the countries of the regional organization for the protection of the marine environment.
As for the Marine Emergency Mutual Aid Centre, it started its activity in 1982, after signing the Kuwait Regional Agreement for Cooperation in the Protection of the Marine Environment from pollution, and the protocol for regional cooperation in combating pollution by oil and other harmful substances in case of emergency in 1978.
The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding ceremony was attended by members of the Board of Directors of RECSO, Mr. Abdullah Al Marzouqi, Board Chairman of (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company - ADNOC), Mr. Ejaz Ashraf, Vice Chairman of (Bahrain Petroleum Company - BAPCO), Mr. Ibrahim Ahmed Al Hilal from (ARAMCO Saudi Arabia), Mr. Ali Al Abdullah from (Chevron Saudi Arabia), Mr. Sami Al Sawagh from (Kuwait Oil Company), Mr. Mohsen Fahad Al Zoubi from (ARAMCO Gulf Business Company), and Dr. Simon West from (Dubai Petroleum Company).
