The Twelfth OSRO Virtual Meeting- 4th October 2022

The Twelfth Oil Spill Response Officers’ (OSRO) Meeting was called from MEMAC Head Quarter (HQ) Virtually – Kingdom of Bahrain via Zoom Application on the 4th October 2022.

In accordance with Decision, 15-2 and 23-xiv of the last Sixteenth ROPME Council Meeting convened in Jeddah, K. Saudi Arabia, on 28th November 2013, and the previous Council Meetings. The Twelfth Oil Spill Response Officers’ (OSRO) Meeting was called from MEMAC Head Quarter (HQ) Virtually – Kingdom of Bahrain via Zoom Application on the 4th October 2022. The Meeting was convening as a regular annual meeting to review and follow up the related Decisions to their duties. Mainly a revision of the status of the National and Regional Contingency Plans and its entire related item towards the preparedness towards the emergencies.

The Meeting was opened at 09:00 a.m, Tuesday the 4th of October 2022, by H.E Dr. Jassem Al Bisharah, ROPME Executive Secretary, by welcoming all the Oil Spill Response Officers' Committee Members (OSRO) and all meeting participants. He highlighted that we need to deal with the main issues, and raising the Member States' preparedness is the cornerstone issue. He referred to the vast challenges posed to the RSA's marine environment due to heavy traffic and various activities. He stated that as long as we have major oil operations, we will continue to deal with such challenges for years to come. He emphasized the need for the Member States to have well-documented scenarios of the challenges and efforts required to combat the pollution. He appreciated all the remarkable efforts put forward by the Member States and ROPME/MEMAC in preserving the marine environment and increasing our preparedness level in the last ten years. He stated that at the end of the Meeting, we would be anchoring on solid and concrete conclusions. He expressed thanks to MEMAC's Director, Capt. Dr. Al Janahi, for his efforts in preparing for this Meeting. In the end, he expressed the organization’s appreciation and gratitude to the Member States OSRO members, wishing them a fruitful and successful Meeting.
